hi i thought i would put some pictures of my latest project as some of you know this has been rallied by simon crook untill  he rolled it earlier this year he had stripped it for repair but the regs changed so wouldnt be eligible for next year.

ive bought the car,and have started to straighten the shell out, the damage is quite extensive and if it wasnt for the fact that it had been prepared by gerry johnson who founded safety devices and every single panel has been seam welded together with large tunnel and group 4 5 linked it probably would have been easier to reshell.

a brief list includes;roof badly kinked above windscreen rear roof pillar flattened one front pillar flattened o/s rear wing badly crushed and top edge rolled over  o/s front inner wing rolled over n/s front inner wing bent down and when i measured the n/s front inner chassis rail there was a nearly a inch differance between the height

even the front suspension crossmember is badly twisted

first job was to put the full cage back in to keep the  shell rigid especially as it ties in with the front suspension pick up points.

then cut off the entire front panel off back to  the inner wings then i removed the front suspension and bolted a 6x2 lenght of box accross the front then welded another lenght of box  to this which was also bolted to the rear suspension points this gave me a good point to jack up the front chassis once is was within a 1mm of its correct height i gave the kinks on the inner chassis rail  some gentle smacks with a hammer they dissapeared with it under tension. released the jack and all remained within a 1mm.used the same rig to jack the inner wing back in place.

ive put a few pictures up after the crash and strip down and will post some more as the rebuild continues

So here she is! I was originally a little skeptical about this, all I'd seen was one photo from the back of the car, so I went up to have a look at it. I've never seen a car before that's been sat for so long and is still this solid! I expected it to be at least a little rotten.

So this is how I found it, stood here since 2009yJTK7kY.jpgf

Filled to the brim with VHS tapes

Fitted with a 2.0 from a manta, still with the 1600 4 speed and axle. I've heard it gets off quick.

zj8TP58.jpg

Ziebart everywhere, I reckon it's saved it, but It'll have to go!

NTsD4qg.jpg

Battery tray was solid, we attempted to start it, it turned over very nicely but wouldn't fire. probably needs HT leads and plugs, probably condenser and rotor arm too.

jqRPJSI.jpg

inner wings and wing rails look good

7aFqcMF.jpg

Funky little trumpet horns! They're staying :D

Jacking points appear solid, but we all know what can be hiding.

gG978X9.png

I5JYA5Y.png

Boot floor is solid too :D

Decided I want it :D So the next weekend went back to move it to my friends farm as I've yet to sort out storage for this...

Managed to drag it out from it's resting place and tow it to a trailer waiting at the bottom of the hill. Roads in wales are very tight! No getting the trailer up there.

Love the scenery in north wales, and my first proper look at the car! incidentally some of my earlies memories are going to north wales on holiday in my dads Ascona berlina :)

Best car on this road in a while ;)

Now down at the car park where the trailer was waiting, I could get a proper look around all sides.

Wouldn't mind a 6 dial speedo for this :)

Now up on the trailer I can get a proper look underneath, and she looks solid!

Down in Caernarfon with the reason she's been sitting for so long.

Sorry for the pic overload! I'm a little obsessed as I can't do anything with it for a few weeks til I can sort out somewhere to put it! Now I know she's going to need some welding, which is fine. The swan necks look pretty good from what I can see but I'd be surprised if they didn't need anything. I think the main jobs will be rebuilding the brakes. The plan is to do what she needs to get it an mot and on the road and use it :)

Does anyone know the history of this grey manta?

It has a 2.2 rocket cover, 71,000 miles and good solid body.  The only bits needing fixed are the roof and bonnet.

Any ideas how it would look with a 400 kit or keep it original?

1979 Rekord

Hi everyone. This is my Rekord. I have it for about 7 years. Originally 2.0S/4speed/3.67 car. Now it has Getrag 240. Other features are rear window louvers, front lip (not SR/E unfortunately, but Berlina), rear Irmscher spoiler, Recaro heated seats, full option dashboard and self ventilated brakes. Ready to go on the car are power windows (rekord e2), LSD differential (3.67), power steering and a few other goodies. This is after all a limousine. The reason I started reading this forum are things I can learn about the motor. I am close to finishing a 2.2 engine for it. Its mostly stock, but I have a 2.0E head (version for unleaded petrol) ready for it. The head has 2.2/2.4 valves in it and it is lowered 1mm. The camshaft is out of 2.2 head. I am currently looking for twin weber DCOE or DCOM to finish my build. The car has a electrofan connected on a temperature sensor and a relay. If I am forgetting something, Ill make sure I add it. As well as more pics.

You probably saw it on ebay. I called the guy up and did a deal, The car was collected yesterday and dropped off today.

It is better than described which is always good but there is still a lot of work to do.

If anyone has any parts they don't need that would suit this car please get in touch...

Bought this from oldwheels a member on here as a daily driver while my 400r has an engine rebuild and some light cosmetics (pictured below )   Only saw pictures of the car on here in the for sale section but you know when you want something lol I saw the project thread and all welding was done so ready to rumble I knew exhaust and clutch needed attention when I purchased it

That's how it looked on the Pics  but on close inspection the finish wasn't that good but considering the size of his shed and a diy job it was good :)  anyway I rubbed it down and painted it Matt black personally I love it I have now got the original font for the stickers as the font I first chose looked pap:o a few more mods to make life easier included.    Power steering / gte brakes with Audi discs / hid headlights / quick shift / Ashley exhaust / remote locking / gas bonnet struts / stereo install with speakers to fill all the holes / 1 key lock set / and the clutch problem was a melted cable due to lack of earth cable ( big thanks to mantasrme :thumbup) so here are some pics of it as it is now (some of my other cars pictured as well.

Mancona hatch

I have been building my Mancona hatch for about a year now ( hmmm edit, 4 years) and have just realised i haven't put up many pics

I originally built my first mancona for billing 2002 after seeing a mancona on a dutch site, i wanted one bad[:)]

I painted it gold and was ace, next to the mancona coupe is my wifes exclusive coupe we restored at home.

kevinmanconaatbilling.jpg

Boy, i miss that mancona coupe . I have never had a car that had that much attention everywhere i went

I took it to billing in 2002/2003 then the car started to fall apart around me so i cut it up.

I kept the parts in my loft as i knew the mancona had a strong hold on me and in 2005 i picked up an auto trader and as luck would have it a hatch was for sale.

It was white, quite rough but with a huge history and the owner had owned it for the last 10 years, it was up for £900

newpics007.jpg

I looked round the car and it needed lots of work after fred in her local garage did touch up work for many years

She had reciepts for thousands of pounds[B)]

So i offered her £300 quid, i said i didn't want to offend her but the car needed lots of work so i'll walk away and leave my number.

3 week later she said come and get it.

This is where the car started to change.........

'87 Coupe - Clubman Rally Car

$

This is a new project which I hope the OMOC members (and Manta fans generally) will get behind and help make it a success.

We are hoping to use a fairly modest machine to prove that one doesn't have to spend £1000s to compete in the sport.

We are hoping to score a few points for 'the man in the street' and claim a few scalps from the rich boys with better cars. Call it 'underdog snobbery/one-upmanship' if you will!

We're also flying the flag for the Manta against its long-time old school RWD rival, the MkII Escort (ever dominant in club level rallying and fetching five figure sums nowadays).

This car will probably have the lowest power to weight ratio on any normal rally (i.e. any rally apart from 'historic' events), but this is where you guys come in. I hope to enlist the support of the vast pool of talented backyard Manta tuners and tweakers who can potentially help even the odds with sheer people power by passing on R&D advice to steepen the learning curve, selling key spares etc. [the big boys will just throw money at BURTON and other firms!]. Even better, would be to have people along to advise/assist on its rebuild (located at OX18 3LX in Oxfordshire) or running the car on events if anyone is up for it?

1987 E plate Manta GTE

2ltr Pinto Engine Fitted with a Type 9 Sierra 5 Speed box

I'm told it has a good engine -quite newly rebuilt

Brand new twin choke carb

Standard tune –estimated at 100 Bhp

Pinto engine (very heavy)

Sports exhaust (possibly?)

Diff may be a bit high-geared for rallying but good for track days

2 sets of standard 14" Manta alloy wheels on road tyres

Safety devices cage - Don't think it's out of a manta though but not a bad fit. Probably from a Pug 205 –rearmost crossbar has lumps underneath it where the bars were probably ground off.

Mantas are quite strong –shouldn't need body strengthening?

Corbeau forza drivers seat and a cobra seat for passenger

Luke 2" Harnesses

Sump Guard

Plumbed in extinguishers

Not RAC Logbooked yet. The plumbed in Extinguisher is out of date, as are the belts and seats

Basically the car was being used on rally sprint days / autotests etc originally, including the 'Bont stages':

http://www.teifistag...o.uk/index.html

Car has sat for couple of years so not sure how good it is underneath. Rust is bubbling around the sunroof and on front of bonnet, Noticed a bit of rust around by where the boot floor meets the back panel. Sunroof, boot + front of bonnet rusting.

It starts and runs fine, Turns over + fired with fuel down carb but needs fuel in tank.

Was Mot'd until April 08 and not moved since!

There's a plate on the slam panel which says "1200kg" but this may be from before it was stripped out inside. Wikipedia says the Manta is 4.45m long [wheelbase 2.52m]

Current weight unknown

Manta Coupe resto no.2

$

So I think it's about time I get going with my manta again, really wanting to use the car this summer. I restored it in 2010 and used it as my daily driver all year round for 3 years which fairly took its toll shall we say so it's been lying in my garage for the last 3 years and never moved.

I did start to strip the car in 2013 to see what all was needed but had to abandon due to other projects.

Im pretty sure the only welding required is both door posts where the check straps are mounted, a small hole in the scuttle panel and the front panel to sort out, the rest is just replacement wings/doors etc.

I will paint the car this time steel grey (original colour), fit the 9x16 borbets, I have finally found enough seats to make a good full Daytona check recaro interior. I'm in the process of fitting 400 vents in my original bonnet which will hopefully come good when it's done. Will be keeping the exclusive boot spoiler and fitting an exclusive rear bumper to replace the elegance style one I had on before. Also have a brand new scorpion stainless exhaust to go on.

Here is a couple of pics, first one is when it came off the road in 2013 and 2nd one is where we are at now.

May be a few weeks before I get started but will be taking lots of photos on my phone so if uploading them works on here this thread should be a success....

Delivered today from Simon is the latest in the Abbott's restorations

Last used in 1998 and it's been to France once judging by the 2 francs I found in the ash tray and the P&O stena line rear view mirror tag.

It has been used as a cat shed for a long time but it's a very nice complete car, lots of spiders webs and it looked like a rat was living in the engine bay

I'm sure quite a few will need no introduction to this car! My dad has had his eye on it for a while now, had tried to buy it off a previous owner, but couldn't be talked to at the time.
One thing lead to another and he now has it home, so hopefully have it registered and out and about over the summer.

Only plans are to give it a good clean, replace the lower front spoiler as it has went missing somewhere along the way, and possibly fit chrome bumpers.
Also have a set of 6x13 ATS alloys that I might put on as I am not overly fussed on the standard steel rims.

5 stud in some of the pictures is now gone.

Well at last after 18 month outside, the A is finaly back in the garage.[:D]

I started working on the front this weekend, the nose cone needed moving, as the bonnet gap was always out due to the fitting on a new inner wing 10 years ago. After a bit of giging about I now have perfect gaps all the round the bonnet.[:D][:D]

Next was to takle the n/s head light houseing and front lower grill area.
